Circuit Simulator Applet
My introduction circuits professor suggested this simple circuit simulator applet as an alternative to PSpice. It actually works (unlike spice most of the time), and has transient visuals that let you ’see’ what’s going on. Enjoy:

How to Good-Bye Teen Pregnancy: Nosefrida Nasal Aspirator. Malarkey? or Effective Way?
A recent study involving over 2000 youth claims that abstinence-only education is ineffective.
The Nosefrida is a remarkably effective tool for sucking snot out of a kid’s nose. It’s basically a flexible plastic tube with a mouthpiece on one end and a snot-collection chamber on the other. You put the mouthpiece in your mouth, press the open end of the snot-collection chamber against your kid’s nostril (it doesn’t go very far inside the nose), and SUCK. An inline filter prevents the snot from ending up in your mouth.

I figure the next step in sex-ed will be showing middle-school kids videos of this thing in action.
Best of Craigslist : Does Your Human Need a Date, Too?
Hi, I’m Loki. I’m 4 years old, with blue eyes, and in excellent shape. But this isn’t really about me. I’m posting for my human, as she thinks this online dating thing is silly and won’t do it herself. But I think it could work. Especially if the humans finally realize that we dogs are much better judges of character than they are and let us do the picking and choosing. But anyway, my human needs a date. Don’t get me wrong, I love her and all, but now and again a guy just needs the apartment to himself for an evening on the couch watching the hot babes on Animal Planet, you know?

Computer Scientists Love LAN Parties!
And the answer, naturally, was LAN parties, the computer science senior said.
“This is actually a pretty big cultural thing with computer scientists,” Rye said. “Everyone loves to play games, and this way it’s a social-type thing.”
I have it on good faith that Djikstra was a Counterstrike junkie, and that Knuth will finish Volume 4 of The Art Of Computer Programming just as soon as he perfects the Zerg rush.

And on the bass…Denis!

- “Saint Denis of Paris is a Christian martyr and saint. In the third century, he was bishop of Paris.”
- Around 250 CE, “Denis, having irritated the tempers of heathen priests for his many conversions, was executed by beheading on the highest hill near Paris (now Montmartre), which was likely to have been a druidic holy place. The martyrdom of Denis and his companions gave it its current name, which in Old French means “mountain of martyrs”. According to the Golden Legend, after his head was chopped off, Denis picked it up and walked several miles, preaching a sermon the entire way.”
- After his death, “…the name Saint Denis became the war-cry of the French armies.”
- “In traditional Catholic practice, Saint Denis is honored as one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. Specifically, Denis is invoked against diabolical possession and headaches.”
- “Denis’ headless walk has led to his being depicted in art decapitated and dressed as a bishop, holding his own mitred head in his hands. Handling the halo in this circumstance offers a unique challenge for the artist. Some put the halo where the head used to be; others have Saint Denis carrying the halo along with the head.”
- Played drum, bass, keys, did-ah-lit, duhert, dig-a-du-dit-dit with American rock band duo Tenacious D on their first world tour. They did not play at any of the following venues: Edinburgh, Scotland; Hong Kong, China; Tijuana, Mexico

The Tao Of Programming
Prince Wang’s programmer was coding software. His fingers danced upon the keyboard. The program compiled without an error message, and the program ran like a gentle wind.
“Excellent!” the Prince exclaimed, “Your technique is faultless!”
“Technique?” said the programmer turning from his terminal, “What I follow is Tao – beyond all techniques! When I first began to program I would see before me the whole problem in one mass. After three years I no longer saw this mass. Instead, I used subroutines. But now I see nothing. My whole being exists in a formless void. My senses are idle. My spirit, free to work without plan, follows its own instinct. In short, my program writes itself. True, sometimes there are difficult problems. I see them coming, I slow down, I watch silently. Then I change a single line of code and the difficulties vanish like puffs of idle smoke. I then compile the program. I sit still and let the joy of the work fill my being. I close my eyes for a moment and then log off.”
Prince Wang said, “Would that all of my programmers were as wise!”
